I’m a pretty positive pup. I look at my water dish as being half full, even when Mom and Dad forget to fill it. There are always some slurps on the bottom I can lap up. Or I can always go to the super small room with the giant white water dish for a drink.
Being positive is being happy, and I show my happiness by wagging my tail. My tail seems to wag all the time, especially when Mom and Dad walk through the door (even when they just go to the mailbox), when company comes over, and when we play ball.
There are lots of other things that make me happy, and then my tail goes crazy:
- When a piece of chicken drops to the floor
- When I can inspect the grocery bags
- When we walk on the shady side of the street
- When I’m invited up on the couch
- When Dad swats a fly buzzing around my ears
- When the noisy ice cubes are delivered to my dish
- When Mom blows her cheese breath in my nose
I feel sorry for two-legged humans because they don’t have tails to wag. How are we doggies supposed to know when they’re happy? I can tell when my mom and dad are happy though. They hug me, or they tell me “Good boy,” or they give me real treats like carrots. I think their tail wagging shows when they smile. I’m just a dog here, so I really don’t know, but if I were a human, I would be happy if dogs:
- Ask to go outside instead of making puddles on the carpet
- Take them for walks
- Announce strangers, like the big man in the brown truck
- Keep their legs warm in bed
- Obey commands like sit and shake
- Tearing up the empty boxes
- Listen when they speak in little kid talk
Being happy is knowing you are safe and protected. That’s why I show my gratitude by wagging my tail. Smiling is good too.
Love and wags to all my readers,
Larry
